“Kate Bornstein Is…” won the audience award for the BEST FEATURE DOCUMENTARY at Translations: the Seattle Transgender Film Festival!
We are incredibly honored, thank you, Seattle.
The closing night screening was sold out! Kate and I were Skyped in from her apartment in NY to introduce the film and for the Q&A afterwards. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!
The festival director, Sam Berliner, sent me some feedback audience members wrote on the voting ballot. (Thanks, Seattle)
“This is a ground-breaking film.”
“Skype was great! Laughed a lot and even cried one real roll down my dyke cheek tear. I promise not to be mean.”
“Kate you inspire me to be the bestest of my tranny self. This memoir inspires me to live: identity, desire and power.”
“This movie needs to be BIG!”
“ <3 Mindblowing baby!”
“Beautiful film with an outstanding message. Powerful portrait of a powerful character.”
“Absolutely beautifully done. I think with a story as poignant, funny and stirring as Kate’s, it’s a great accomplishment to walk the line between too theatrical and too reserved.”
“Kate is fabulous!”
“Love the mix of philosophy and queer humor. You made a humorous and intellectual film telling a story that needs to be told.”
“Awesome kudos to Sam and to Kate: Auntie Kate keep on until you go then go out the way you have lived!”
Next week I’ll be screening the film at QDOC in Portland. Hope to see some of you there!
